HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV).-- Women from all around the Valley gathered at Harrisonburg's City Hall for WHSV's "Thrive" event on Monday. The event was geared toward women's empowerment and leadership.

Women took pictures with the "Thrive" background during breaks.
WHSV's General Manager, Sacha Purciful, came up with the idea for the event, and was elated to see it come together.
"It means to live your best self. To be inspired and motivated to go out there and do work that matters," said Purciful.
A panel of women addressed the crowd, each of them telling their own stories to inspire other women.
Mayor Deanna Reed greeted the crowd of over 100 people to start the event.
Christina Kunkel, Synergy Life and Wellness Coaching CEO and Founder, told her story of the difficult times she has been through, and what has defined her to become a "champion of women."
"My wish is that we would be able to choose to be inspired and to inspire other women in place of the hopelessness that we feel," said Kunkel. "It's time. The women in our area are just so ready to hear and embody feminine leadership and I'm really excited about where this is taking us."
She left the crowd with three dares: to embrace their differences, find and use their authentic voice, and to embrace what scares them.
Dr. Joanne Gabbin spoke to the crowd about love, loss and motherhood. She shared her experience of losing a child of her own, and how she had to overcome that challenge.
During breaks, women mingled in the atrium of City Hall, and spent time talking with vendors that were set up.
"The vibe is electric," said Kunkel.
The event closed with a panel discussion where women who were attending were able to ask questions.
