AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va (WHSV) — It has been a full month since SkyWest-United came to the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.

The only issue the service has had so far is with severe weather.

On Wednesday morning, the board met to discuss progress and other projects they are working on.

Greg Campbell, executive director for the airport commission, said this partnership is the best they have ever had.

He said Skywest is proving to be highly reliable by being on time and early. The only issue they have had is weather-related.

He said their passenger traffic in April was a five-fold increase, which is great news for the airport.

"It's really rewarding to know that we have an airline partner that is providing good, reliable service, and that is a product that we as an airport can get behind," said Campbell.

They are working on keeping the airport up-to-date and are finishing a $2 milliom construction project ahead of schedule, which includes repaving runways and taxi-ways.

"As we continue to make sure the facilities here are the best facilities for the community, and for the operators, and this is part of our ongoing capital program to make sure those facilities are kept modern and up-to-date," added Campbell.

Campbell said the community support allows for a long-standing relationship and possible growth down the road.
