SKYLINE LITERACY ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TRANSITION

The Skyline Literacy Board of Directors announces that its Executive Director, Elizabeth Girvan, will retire at the end of June, after almost a decade with the organization.

The board expresses its gratitude to Ms. Girvan for her years of service, vision and leadership.  Ms. Girvan began at Skyline Literacy as the Tutor & Training Coordinator in 2008.  Her own experience as a volunteer tutor drew her to the work of the organization. In 2011, she was appointed to the Executive Director position. During Ms. Girvan’s time at the organization and through the commitment of staff and board, Skyline expanded and added services to meet the community’s diverse population and needs.  In 2016, the organization relocated its main office to the Valley Workforce Center to increase accessibility to programs such as basic literacy tutoring and computer literacy classes.

As part of a thoughtful succession plan, the Skyline Board has selected Skyline’s Outreach & Engagement Coordinator, Angela Carter, as the new Executive Director beginning July 1, 2018.  Ms. Carter has played an integral role in increasing Skyline’s outreach efforts this past year.

Skyline is looking forward to the next phase of its success, under Ms. Carter’s leadership. Angela Carter joined Skyline Literacy in November 2017 as the Outreach and Engagement Coordinator. Angela brings a wide range of experiences as a former Director of Outreach, Human Resources Manager, Director of Career Services, is an author, and a graduate of the Management and Organizational Development baccalaureate program at EMU. She was nominated for the 2014 Pushcart prize, is a public speaker, creative writing instructor, community events organizer, and long-time literacy and arts advocate. She's excited about continuing her dedication to Skyline Literacy's mission and vision in her new role as Executive Director.
