Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery, Inc. announces their 2016 successes and a new Executive Director

Harrisonburg, VA - January 25, 2017 - Approximately 5,000 people in the Central Shenandoah Valley Community are affected with brain injury. In 2016 Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery exceeded program goals and expectations by 35% by serving more people in our service area than anticipated. We met our mission to help provide options for your neighbors to return to work, school, and live productive and meaningful lives.

Crossroads gladly welcomes Tamara Wagester as the new Executive Director, beginning in January 2017. Ms. Wagester graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and she studied at George Mason University for a Master’s degree in Economics. After working on Capitol Hill for Members of Congress from Michigan and California, she served nearly 15 years as Executive Director of a national non-profit which focused on food, agricultural, natural resource, and environmental issues. The past several years she provided independent consulting services researching areas of the non-profit employment environment.

“I am excited to work with an outstanding team to improve the quality of life for those affected by brain injury and to help achieve independence for so many of our neighbors whose lives have been impacted by brain injury,” stated Ms. Wagester. “I look forward to working with the communities and businesses to offer opportunities for those in need.”

Michelle Witt, who served as the Executive Director of the organization from its beginning days in 2007, recently stepped down from that role in November 2016. She hopes to remain connected to the organization and greater brain injury community. “Crossroads will be forever indebted to Michelle. For almost a decade she provided support to our community and clients and embodied our core values of respect, collaboration, integrity, and innovation. She was always professional and always friendly. We dearly appreciate her past leadership to our organization, and look forward to working with her in the future", said Jacob Penrod, Esq. Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery, Inc. is a non-profit organization serving Virginia Planning District 6, which includes Rockingham, Augusta, Bath, Highland, and Rockbridge counties and the cities located within these counties. Crossroads combines public and private resources to provide specialized services for persons affected by brain injury. The mission of our organization is to improve the quality of life for those affected by brain injury by ensuring that individuals and their caregivers have access to the information, resources, and services they need to lead independent and productive lives.
