HARRISONBURG — Brothers Craft Brewing was the big winner in the 2018 Virginia Craft Beer Cup competition, and two other local breweries also received awards.

Brothers took the top prize, Best In Show, for its Lil’ Hellion. The beer was judged to be the top entrant in the pale malty European lager category and was selected over all other first-place winners as the competition’s best.

The brewery’s Resolute also was judged to be the best in the Wood Beer category.

Pale Fire Brewing Co.’s Red Molly captured first place among Irish Beer entrants.

Three Notch’d Brewing Co., a Charlottesville brewery with a tap room in Harrisonburg, took home third place in the Pale American Ale category for its Ghost of the 43rd.

The competition, the largest state contest of its kind in America, is held annually by the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild. Three hundred twenty-seven beers were entered in 27 categories.

The judging took place May 19 at Fair Winds Brewing Co. in Lorton. Winners were announced Monday.
