Bridgewater College Students Recognized by the Department of Health and Human Sciences

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Five Bridgewater College students were presented awards from the department of health and human sciences during the annual awards ceremony on April 22.
 
Major of the Year awards were presented in the following fields of study – Blake Mann received the award in health and exercise science, Jacqueline W. Lamas in family and consumer sciences, Courtney Michrina in nutritional science and Maria Rector in athletic training.
 
Major of the Year awards are presented to students who exhibit strong academic skills and substantial career-related experiences, as well as for being positive role models. 
 
Mann, a senior, is the son of Julie Gregerson of Milton, Del.; Lamas, a junior, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mario Lamas of Weyers Cave, Va.; Michrina, a senior, is the daughter of Sue and Mark Michrina of Duncansville, Pa.; and Rector, a senior, is the daughter of Kathy and Jose Rector of Frederick, Md.
 
Michrina also received the Excellence in Academics award, which is presented to the student who demonstrates academic excellence and engages in the learning process in the classroom and beyond.
 
Lamas was also presented the Excellence in Leadership and Service award for demonstrating excellence in leadership, character and service.
       
Elizabeth Watson, a junior family and consumer sciences major, received the Rugby H. St. John Endowed Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences. The award, valued at $2,200, is presented to a student seeking a degree in family and consumer sciences with preference given to those seeking certification in secondary education. The award is based on scholarship, leadership and character. Watson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watson of Midlothian, Va.
 
Following graduation on May 5, Mann will pursue a doctor of physical therapy at Mary Baldwin University’s Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences.
 
Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,900 undergraduate students.
