Brain Injury Connections Names Dean To Board

HARRISONBURG — Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley named Cheryl Dean as a member of the nonprofit’s board, according to an Oct. 19 announcement.

Dean, according to a press release, is a brain injury survivor, who spent her career at James Madison University as an academic adviser and career specialist for undeclared majors and special populations.

Dean, who grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia for school, is an active member of the Interfaith Association and the Greater Shenandoah Valley Brain Injury Support Group, the release states. In 1992 she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. As a result, she has been active in local MS Support Groups and a volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was also a loving caregiver for her father for the past several years., according to the release Dean received her B.A. in social work and sociology, and her M.A. in education from Eastern Mennonite University, specializing in diverse needs and at risk populations.

Brain Injury Connections recruits board members who represent a variety of diverse interests within the field of brain injury, from specialists to survivors and caregivers, the release states.

Brain Injury Connections is a not-for-profit organization that serves Rockingham, Augusta, Page, Shenandoah, Bath, Highland, and Rockbridge counties and the cities located within.
