Years of attention by many professionals across multiple disciplines (Government, EH&S, Human Resources, Engineering, Nursing, etc.) have still left many of us feeling that goals of achieving no lost time hours and zero injuries is challenging and elusive in our organizations. There is incredible cost associated with incidents – both personal and financial – and each one impacts lives and overall safety performance.
What can be done? Organizations need to focus on leadership and recognize the human element that is a significant part of safety performance and behaviors in the workplace. Nearly all safety incidents contain a human behavior that contributed to the near miss or injury. Don’t settle for mediocre safety performance – let’s raise the bar by implementing good leadership skills that will empower and equip your workforce for better results.

About the Presenter:
Lara Hoke recently celebrated ten years as the owner of Leadership Foundations. She has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources Development & Safety. She facilitates Leadership Foundations®, A Dialogue at the Front, designed to provide practical skills for front line supervisors and executive level management teams needed to lead effectively. Previously she worked as the HR & Safety Supervisor for Hollister Incorporated and before joining Hollister, she worked at RR Donnelley & Sons in Harrisonburg as the HR Supervisor. Lara is a Bridgewater College graduate and received her Master’s Degree in Adult Education and Human Resources Development from James Madison University. In her leisure time she enjoys kayaking and international travel. She volunteers at Bridge Christian Church as the Prayer Ministry Leader and is a founding member of the Blue Ridge Safety Association.
