Name: City Invites Public to Discuss Upcoming Project
Date: February 28, 2018
Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM EST
Event Description:
The Harrisonburg Public Works Department invites members of the community to attend a public input meeting about an upcoming road project.

On Wednesday, February 28 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., city staff will host an open house meeting for the public to see the plans for the I-81 exit 245 (Port Republic Road) realignment project. Project plans, the design work, environmental documents, and the construction schedule will be available for the community to review.

The scope of this project includes the realignment of the I-81 exit 245 northbound off-ramp. The exit ramp will be realigned to intersect with Forest Hill Road. The current configuration creates a difficult weave maneuver for motorists to exit I-81 and access Forest Hill Road.

While the planning, design, and construction of this project is handled by the city and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), James Madison University (JMU) has also played an integral role. The land and easements needed for this project are being donated by JMU.

This project was funded through the Commonwealth Transportation Board and VDOT’s Smart Scale program, which utilizes state and federal funds. Additional information on the project and the upcoming open house is always available at www.HarrisonburgVA.gov/exit-245-project.
